This unique ambulance is equippedDSC_0121 with an onboard mobile CT scanner, lab, and telemedicine unit, allowing technicians working in the ambulance to interact with the doctor, and the doctor to interact with the patient, in real-time. The doctor is able to see the results of the CT scanner images and quickly make a diagnosis. The rapid diagnosis of the type of stroke determines if the clot-busting medicine tPA (tissue plasminogen activator) should be administered. TPA is used to treat cases of ischemic stroke, which account for 80% of all strokes. When administered quickly, TPA is proven to diminish the effects of stroke, and in many cases, can minimize or completely eliminate any permanent stroke effects. The Mobile Stroke Unit is also equipped for the treatment of hemorrhagic strokes.
In the absence of the Mobile Stroke Treatment Unit, a traditional ambulance responds to a stroke patient. These technicians can only attempt to stabilize the patient during transport to the hospital, where the patient can finally be diagnosed with a CT scanner. Valuable time is lost, time which could have been used to administer TPA medication and increase the patient’s chance for a full recovery. (The generally accepted timeframe for administering TPA is within 4.5 hours of the onset of stroke symptoms.)
This new type of emergency vehicle currently operates in Cleveland, Ohio and the results have been astonishing. Many patients who would otherwise have suffered permanent physical or mental damage have emerged from the treatment with high praise for the city and medical staff who treated them using the Mobile Stroke Unit.
Customers large and small alike have discovered the extra value of remounting their Excellance vehicle versus buying cheaper vehicles every few years. A very high percentage of Excellance modules are remounted, and many 10-20-year-old modules having been remounted multiple times and are still providing trouble-free service.
Unlike most manufacturers, Excellance is unique in that it provides a comprehensive range of remounting services ranging from simple chassis replacement to extensive refurbishment and remodeling of the module. All work is done entirely within our facilities. Skilled craftsmen work in strict compliance with KKK and FMVSS engineering requirements. To ensure that your vehicle will perform beyond your expectations, each remounted vehicle undergoes an extensive Quality Assurance and Testing Process that is exactly the same as what we use for our newly-manufactured vehicles.
Excellance not only remounts the modular bodies it manufactures but also remounts select other brands of vehicles depending upon its age, quality, and engineering limitations. Many of our customers tell us these “other” vehicles look better when we are finished with them than when the vehicle was purchased new.
Some of the typical work we perform includes: Conversion of Type III modules to Type I chassis | Changes from one brand of chassis to another brand | Changing modules to fit on larger GVWR chassis | Accident and body damage repairs | Complete electrical system replacement | Interior and exterior compartment modifications | Complete refinishing, repainting, and graphics | New suspensions | New warning lights and sirens/speakers | HVAC system replacements and upgrades
The Type IIIL modular body shares most of the same features as our Type I series, but also includes additional items such as an exterior battery storage compartment and custom-fabricated aluminum diamond-plate running boards as standard equipment. While a walk-through feature from the cab to the module is standard, we also offer an optional “pass-through” configuration to provide more space for map books, communication equipment, etc.
Excellance offers two distinct models of Type IIIL ambulances on chassis choices from Ford, Chevrolet, and GMC (for certain models.) Our most popular model is the Type IIIL on a Ford E-450 with a 14,050# GVWR and a 158″ wheelbase. This chassis includes front/rear OEM anti-sway bars, all-wheel disc brakes, and 55-gallon fuel capacity. We also offer a full range of chassis options including battery conditioners, automatic snow chains, etc. The fully-welded aluminum module has a standard size of 166″ length x 96″ width and includes 69″ of interior headroom. Six standard exterior compartments contain more than 120 cubic feet of storage space. Three exterior compartments also feature interior/exterior access as standard. Dual vertical backboard compartments (streetside/curbside) are standard on all Type IIIL models.
The largest ambulance is our Golden Eagle Type IIIXL on an E-450 chassis with a 176″ wheelbase. This module is 180″ long x 96″ wide and features 69” of headroom. While not your typical ambulance, its unique size lends itself extremely well to situations that have multiple litter patients, Mobile ICU transports, and Fire/Rescue operations. Eight standard exterior compartments provide more than 150 cubic feet of storage space.

Excellance offers two distinct models of Type III ambulances on a 138″ Wheelbase chassis. Chassis from Ford, Chevrolet, and GMC are available. We also offer a full range of chassis options including battery conditioners, automatic snow chains, etc.
The larger brother to the Metro Eagle is our Golden Eagle Type III. Its fully-welded aluminum module has a standard size of 146″ L x 96″ W and includes 69″ of interior headroom. Five standard exterior compartments contain over 100 CFT of storage space. Three exterior compartments also feature interior/exterior access as standard.
The Type I modular body shares most of the same features as the Type III series but offers 25% more standard interior cabinet storage. While a pass-through window is standard equipment, optional configurations include “crawl-through” and “walk-through” options to permit personnel access between the cab and the module. A flexible, heavy-duty boot is installed to allow the cab and module to flex independently from each other.
Chassis choices from Ford, Chevrolet and GMC provide a range of payloads from 11,000-lb GVWR to 15,000-lb GVWR. A full range of performance options such as battery conditioners, air-ride suspension, brake retarders, dual-compressor air conditioning systems, automatic snow chains, etc. are available to suit any environment along with a factory-installed 4×4 system for severe operating conditions.
